GABRIELA CAVANAGH is an award-winning director, producer, editor and occasional DP with a focus on projects blending performance and documentary elements.

She is currently finishing post-production on Becky G: Mi Vida en Color, her feature directorial debut, produced by Creature Films and Live Nation, in association with Sony. The film follows global pop superstar Becky G’s aspiring journey over the past year as she releases Esquinas, her debut Regional Mexican album, and embarks on her first ever headlining tour. This film is an intimate portrait of an artist at a crossroads between two cultures, navigating identity, family, expectations and fame. Estimated release early 2025.

Previously, she edited and produced Untitled Breaking Feature Documentary (wt) — blending decades of archival, present day verite, and breaking battles, the film tells the story of 90s breakdancing legend and his journey of self-acceptance after 41 years in the closet. Release TBD.

She directed and edited Otrolado (Otherside) - a short film profiling three of Cuba’s most celebrated dancers after their decision to leave the national company to form their own trio. Part documentary, part performance, OtroLado is a behind-the-scenes-look as they test the boundaries of contemporary dance, friendship and art. 

Previously, she developed and produced NightGowns (Quibi). Part-performance, part documentary, the 8-part series follows drag queen sensation Sasha Velour and her drag ensemble as they craft the lip-sync numbers of their dreams. The series was called “among the most life-affirming shows you could find on any platform” by the New York Times. 

In 2022, she produced a critically acclaimed episode of Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi (Hulu), leading creative from development through post. The season was nominated for a Primetime Emmy (Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series, 2023). Gabriela also directed Sustained Outrage (PBS, 2020), an award winning short film about a family-owned, Pulitzer prize winning local newspaper in West Virginia and its fight for survival. In 2021, she edited three short films for Academy Award nominee Stanley Nelson, one of which was nominated for an Emmy (“Women’s World of Boxing”). 

For three years, Gabriela worked as a Development Producer at the two-time Academy Award nominated production company, The Documentary Group. She has worked closely with talent such as Shakira, Bad Bunny, Doja Cat, Sabrina Carpenter, Sasha Velour, Padma Lakshmi, and Emily Ratajkowski.
